Launch of the new SEO Workshop
I was so delighted to spend time with my peeps during the live SEO Workshop that launched on Monday. We had 47 site owners in the session, and even more are watching the replays.
We’re also making super good use of the private Facebook group that is exclusive to this workshop.
Craft and Lifestyle Blogger SEO Workshop Coming
I’ve already got plans in the works for another workshop in a couple of months that is going to focus squarely on the kind of SEO my craft and lifestyle blogger peeps need help with the most.
More on that as we get closer to the launch.
BlogAid News subscribers will be the first to know about it. So ensure you’re on that list.
SSL Course Launched
And I’m thrilled to announce that the new SSL course has been launched in Level 3 of the Webmaster Training membership too.
Knowing how to convert sites to HTTPS will be the hottest training for designers in 2017!
I’ve got the first half of the tutorials in there and will be releasing all of the how-to videos as I make them this week.
I’ve got super easy ways for you to convert your site with no plugins!
And you won’t take a performance or security hit doing it this way either.
That’s all the news from around here. Let’s jump into this week’s tips.
See what’s new in the quick video tour I made for you last night.
- A new task when you upload images
- Uploaded PDF thumbnails that act just like images
- The TinyMCE text editor toolbar reordering
- A new Twenty Seventeen theme with a parallax effect and video header
- New features and enhancements to the Customizer
- REST API Endpoints added
- A few more Developer Perks under the hood
Simple Share Buttons Adder Massive Redirects
You need to drop the Simple Share Buttons Adder plugin right now.
They’ve injected massive amounts of redirects that are adding anywhere from 20 to 60 new requests and causing severe slow loads on sites.
Thanks so much to Jeff Holms of Home Hints for the heads up on this.
I’ll have a post for you with more details and plugin recommendations later this week. So look for that.
Massive Wave of Ghost Spam in Google Analytics
I had three folks contact me yesterday about a flood of spam links in their Google Analytics account.
I want you to go read this post from Moz about it.
He talks about the different types of spam bots – ghosts and crawlers – and how to create an inclusion filter for Google Analytics.
You don’t want to use an exclusion filter. That’s a whack-a-mole game you can’t win.
The GM Block Bots plugin will block the crawler spam bots on your site.
You’ll find it and about 6 other plugins I won’t do a site without on my Recommended Plugins list.
Massive DDoS Attacks Hit A2
If your site has been running slow or down periodically, just know that A2 is doing all they can to fend off a massive DDoS attack.
Plus, part of the network infrastructure they lease from another company has had issues lately too, which has just compounded the problem.
Folks, please don’t cuss out the support folks when you call in for your site being down. Trust me, they are doing all they can do and don’t want sites to be down.
And, also know that this happens at all hosts these days. There’s really no place else to move that you’re not going to have down time due to attacks on something, including many items that are outside of the host’s control, like the network routers, or the DNS routers.
Remember a month or so ago when half the internet was down due to an attack on a DNS server? I wonder how many poor hosting tech support folks wished they had not come into work that day. It wasn’t their company’s fault, but that didn’t stop them from getting an earful anyway.
All I can say is, check your targets before you shoot when it comes to site uptime.
That’s a wrap for this week’s Tips Tuesday.

And thank you so much to the folks who faithfully give a Like on Facebook and a heart on Twitter!!!!
I see you and appreciate you so much.
