If your site uses images as a selling point or you want to protect certain files, such as PDFs for non-general consumption, now you have an easy way to upload them to specific folders and increase your SEO in the process.
The Plugin
You can easily upload files to the Media Library using the standard links in your WordPress Admin area or text editor. However, if you want to upload files to specific folders, you would have to use an FTP program such as FileZilla, until now. The List Yo’ Files plugin allows you to manage files and folders from your Admin area.
What it Can Do
Being able to place images in specific folders is one trick that photographers use to radically improve their SEO (Search Engine Optimization). For example, instead of placing an image that has a file name of IMG001.jpg into the standard Uploads folder of the Media Library, the file is renamed to cake.jpg and placed in a folder called Atlanta-Weddings. Search engines eat that up.
The List Yo’ Files plugin allows you to create a new folder and then upload files directly to it. You can also delete files previously placed in that folder.
The plugin also has special features that allow you to use what is known as shortcode (little snippets of code) on a page or post to list all of the files, with links, that are in a particular folder. This is extraordinarily useful for featuring a list of PDF files, mp3 podcasts, videos, or other media, sorted by topic. You can even include an icon as part of the file list.
Visit the List Yo’ Files plugin page for more information about all of its features, and be sure to see the Screenshots page to get an idea of all that this handy plugin can do.
