It’s very important that you keep your WordPress software, theme, and plugins up-to-date. Most of the update releases are to patch security holes or to keep up with the latest release of WordPress. In this quick video, you’ll learn how to update your WordPress site and plugins. It’s a simple process, but there are ways to goof it up that you’ll want to know about. Plus, there’s a little tip on why you may not even know that you have updates available.
Backup First
Also, you’ll want to do a fresh backup before you update anything on your site. That way, if the update causes your site to break in some way, you can restore it to its previously working state. Be sure to do another backup after everything has been updated.

Check Your Site
WordPress 3.3 will come with jQuery built in. Some plugins use jQuery and may be updated soon to rely on the built-in version. So, be sure to check your site between updates and be aware that some plugins and such may not work until after everything is updated. I normally recommend updating plugins first, but for WordPress 3.3, I’m recommending that you update it first, then your plugins, then your theme.
