The turning of the calendar means that it’s time to update the copyright notice on your website. There are several different methods for WordPress, all depending on your themes options. Following are a few places for you to check.
First, be sure to view the home page of your site. Some themes use code scripts or plugins to automatically update your copyright. If you find that it is still set for last year, follow the tips below to find your copyright text.
Log in to your WordPress site. Find the Appearance link in the left sidebar. Click it to see if you have any theme options listed. If so, click that link and scroll through any options available to find your copyright text.
You will also want to check to see if there is a link for Footer, as that will be the most likely place for your copyright text.
If you don’t see your theme options or a footer link, then click the Editor link. You will be redirected to the Edit Themes page.
NOTE: Be careful. Any changes you make in this editor could affect your theme, including making it inactive or dysfunctional. Only make changes to the copyright text.
On the right side of the edit page you’ll find a list of links to files that control your site. Click on the one for Footer.php. If you find the copyright year there, change it. Scroll down the page (outside the code window) until you see the blue Save Changes button and click it.
After making any changes to the files above, check your site to ensure that everything works and looks as it should.
