The Yoast SEO plugin has a new setup wizard. Here’s what will happen if you use it.
First, you’ll never see the wizard if you already have the plugin installed. But on new installs, it will be pushed in your face.
This is all in an effort to help more folks configure the plugin.
That’s a good thing. Here’s why.
What I see with 99% of my site audit clients is that they have the plugin installed, but not configured.
That does more SEO harm than good.
But here’s the rub
If you set it up with this wizard, some of the settings will be hidden in the Advanced tab.
So, it won’t look or act the same as it does for folks who don’t run the wizard.
It’s already causing confusion with folks thinking some of the functions have been removed from the plugin.
And, it instantly makes all tutorials for this plugin confusing too.
But the big thing is, you still won’t know how to fill out the wizard properly!
That’s where education comes in.
My DIY SEO course has 7 videos on this plugin alone. If all those settings were self-explanatory, we wouldn’t need a course, right?!?
It’s still the best SEO plugin, and we’re delighted that Yoast makes it free to use.
But you do need to know how to set it up properly, even if you use the wizard.
