GA4 Divide Event Count By 3
Many of the Standard reports in GA4 show a total Event Count.
It’s a useless metric and to make it more meaningful, you need to divide by 3.
Let me show you why.

3 Events Per Visitor
Every time a human visits a page or post on your site, at least 3 events are triggered:
- Session start
- Page view
- Scroll
The scroll event is only going to trigger when a human actually starts reading or scanning your content.
The other 2 events can be triggered by bots, or users who had zero engagement with your site and closed the session within 10 seconds.
Average Time on Page is More Helpful
Your Traffic Acquisition report is going to show you both total and engaged Sessions. The Engaged ones are actually meaningful.
What’s even more helpful is to have a look at the average time on page.
The more time on page, the more total events likely got racked up, as a human scrolled multiple times on their cell phone to read the whole article.
Custom Reports are Better
And more helpful still is to create a custom report where you can see this meaningful info per post.
So, total events by itself is not a useful metric. But dividing it by 3 can at least give you an idea of how many humans likely visited that page or post.
