Outbound Click Tracking in Google Analytics 4

Did you know that GA4 natively tracks outbound link clicks? Yep!!
And you can see which link was clicked on which page too, plus the journey visitors took to that page.
Let me show you how!

- Tour default reports
- Create 20+ custom reports
- Accurate metrics
Turn on Outbound Clicks
When you first setup GA4, you’ll have the opportunity to turn on Enhanced Measurements.
And you need to think carefully about these settings as they impact GDPR too.
One of the Events listed that is available for tracking in GA4 is outbound link clicks.
See Clicks in Events Report
In the Standard report for Engagement > Events, you can see the total number of clicks.
See Exact Link and Page in Explore Report
But, if you create your own custom Explore report, you can see the exact link that was clicked and the page the visitor was on when they clicked it.
Path Report for Clicks
And you can create a Path report that begins with the Click Event at the end, and then see the journey your visitors took to get to that page where they clicked.
Use Google Tag Manager for Specific Links Clicked
Plus, if you incorporate Google Tag Manager, you can tag specific link clicks to track, like your affiliate links.
That’s perfect for seeing which pages or posts are converting the best for your affiliate marketing, and which ones need help.
You can also create tags to know if a visitor saw your in-content optin and if they clicked the subscribe button too.
