UPDATE: April 9, 2013. This plugin has been found to have a serious spam-injection issue! Please visit this post and watch a short video on what you need to do before you delete the plugin that will save you a lot of time, plus a step through on setting up an alternative plugin.
The Social Media Widget plugin has been through some major changes, so I made this updated video to show you all of the new features and configurations as well as how to get the most from it. This plugin provides an easy to use widget that makes it simple to display social media and RSS feed icons in your header or sidebar, or anywhere on your site that has a widget-ready area.

Thanks for the information. I am old but new to this and cannot tie in the blog and web site. There is lots of info everywhere but how does it all come together. I enjoyed your approach and by putting in the links to my blog maybe I’ll get my head around it.
Hi Derek. WordPress is one big CMS with both dynamic posts (blog) and static pages. You might want to have a look at the WordPress Basics Videos to help you get started.
If you have more questions, you’re welcome to contact me to set a consulting session or training class.
MaAnna,
Such a clear explanation! I absolutely want to put this on my blog, and your instructions make this seem pretty easy. I’m new to your blog and you might have a post which details this but…
if I’m now on Blogger, is it difficult to migrate to WordPress? If I’m just starting to get some traffic on my blog, is this the worst time to migrate? Is there a better time? Should I stay put? :-)
Again, if you already have a post on this.. feel free to direct me, based on your excellent instructions I’d be willing to listen. Thank you for any assistance.
Victoria
Hi Victoria! You’re more than welcome to embed that video on your blog. You can get the share code right on the BlogAid YouTube channel.
As for a good time to move to WordPress, the sooner the better. You’re only going to get more traffic and Google indexing as you go, so the quicker you make the switch, the less disruptive it will be. No, it’s not technically hard to move from Blogger to WordPress, as far as just transferring your content. What will take you time is getting all your little content pieces squared away on the layout and look of a different theme. If you can find one that is structurally close to what you are using now, that will help. Plus, WordPress works a little differently than Blogger on the backend, so you may want to get more familiar with it before you move.
I have a special training package just for that. I’ll set up a private training site for you with your choice of premium theme and the WordPress+Genesis video library. You can play to your hearts content outside of the public eye. Then when you know exactly what you want, we can migrate the whole thing to your hosting. Visit the WordPress Training page for details.
nice plugin.. but I use self coded widget on my blog :)
I do too, when I can Deepanker. But most folks just don’t have that option in either knowledge or money. What I see a lot during site reviews is folks using plugins to make up for what their free theme lacks. That usually causes more problems than it fixes.
Thanks for the info, I am a blogger who uses the blogger platform… I think wordpress is very difficult to use because of all those plugins you just have to install, my blog – http://www.stevenbergy.com.ng looks better under the blogger platform
Enjoyed reading your posts, Keep it up
You’re right about WordPress not being for everyone and sometimes being a bit of pain. Plus, Blogger is owned by Google and get good SEO just because of that. It really all depends on what you need to offer and what you need to use for your site.
I used to be on Blogger. But my business needs outgrew it, so had to move to WordPress and it has been a good move for me.
