Access Data Settings
Log into your GA4 property.
At the bottom of the left sidebar, click the Admin tab to get here.
In the second column, click Data Settings.
And then click Data Collection.
Google Signals
Everything you see here has to do with what’s called Google Signals.
And how you configure these settings will directly impact your GDPR compliance.
That includes the type of demographics info you’re used to seeing in Universal Analytics now.
Threshold
Beyond that, it could also determine whether Google applies Thresholding to your data that could keep you from seeing all visits. That means your counts shown could actually be far lower than the real visitor count.
Impact to Brand Deals and Sponsorship
Now, you’d think just adjusting these settings so Thresholding is turned off would be the way to go.
But, knocking out all of that demographic info could also knock you out of brand and sponsorship deals too.
And, it could negatively impact what some ad agencies see too.
Your Responsible for Your GDPR
Plus, you literally have to check things off to acknowledge that you fully understand what type of data you’re collecting.
This means that Google is putting you on the hook for your own GDPR compliance.
