Hosting is one of the most critical elements of site success. And yet, it’s the one thing site owners tend to neglect researching and paying a little more for good service. Uptime is far from all there is to good hosting. It’s always been difficult to find a host that suits all of my client’s needs, has superior support, and remains rock steady in the service they provide. But now, it’s becoming so difficult, that I’ve decided to stop publicly endorsing any host and will stay out of all “which host is best” online discussions. Here’s the full skinny on what brought me to this decision.

Starting last week, a severe DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack hit several big hosting services. While many of the affected host providers were able to continue delivering site pages with only minor interruptions, the attack finally crippled a few of the EIG owned hosts such as HostGator and BlueHost on New Year’s Eve day.
